All international students are required to have health insurance. Information about the insurance policy can be found online. It is your choice whether to purchase a supplemental policy from your home country, but having an insurance policy is mandatory.
o The University of Wyoming requires all international students to purchase UW Student Health Insurance.
o The cost for the student health insurance for the fall semester is approximately $1500
o The cost for the spring/summer semester is approximately $1500.
o This charge will automatically be billed to your student account.
o IMPORTANT! This insurance is almost never waived, so please be prepared for this additional charge.
o It is your choice whether to purchase a supplemental insurance from your home country. We recommend that you look closely at the UW policy information in making this decision.

All international students are required, as part of their registration fees, to purchase health insurance available through the University of Wyoming unless the student receives a waiver of this requirement from Risk Management. Unless a waiver is granted, the student will be automatically enrolled in the insurance.

Waivers will be granted only if the student provides proof of insurance meeting the following requirements:
The policy meets ONE of the following requirements:
a. Insurance is provided by the student’s government or a UW approved sponsor; or
b. The student is covered by UW employee health insurance as a result of their employment at UW and purchases a policy or policies providing coverage for any requirements not included in the employee insurance (for example, evacuation and repatriation coverage); or
c. The student is covered by a US employer provided health insurance program as a result of his or her employment or the employment of a parent or spouse.
AND
The policy meets ALL of the following requirements:
a. Medical benefits of at least $100,000 per accident or illness;
b. Repatriation of remains in the amount of $25,000;
c. Evacuation of the exchange visitor to his or her home country in the amount of $50,000; and
d. A deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness.
e. May not exclude pre-existing conditions but may require a reasonable waiting period for pre-existing conditions
f. May include a provision for co-insurance up to but not exceeding 25% of covered benefits per accident or illness
A waiver may also be granted if the student is not present in Wyoming and has a minimal ongoing registration requirement.
All waiver requests (with the required supporting documentation) must be submitted to the Student Insurance Specialist by email at stuins@uwyo.edu or in person during University business hours at Hill Hall room 641 prior to the deadline to drop classes each semester. Requests submitted after this date will not be considered.
